Good to know

You have an atividade, but we couldn’t confirm it?

We look up your NIF in VIES, the EU list of VAT numbers. Many small sole traders are not in it. On “Business details”, tick “I confirm my atividade is open on the Portal das Finanças” and type your legal name.

Who needs one?

Anyone who organises and sells events often, on their own account. Declare it before you start.

Activity code, IVA, Segurança Social?

They depend on your case. Ask your accountant.

If it doesn’t work

No Portal password?

On the Portal, tap Criar Conta and enter your NIF. The password comes by letter to your tax address.

The Portal asks for organised accounting?

Then a certified accountant files the declaration for you.

Rather do it in person?

A Serviço de Finanças or a Loja do Cidadão can take the declaration.
